Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hello,
I have 2 HDD drives (WD20NMVW-11EDZS2 and WD20NMVW-11AV3S2) bought from the same shop in the same periode.
The have the Same DCM (except 1 character) and a close date but only the first part of the MDL.
Can the 2 drives have a compatible heads assembly?
What is the reliability of information about donor drive criteria on DonorDrive.com and other websites? are theses creteria a MUST in order to have a compatible heads assembly?
kind regards,

The blue drive is rather fresh, e.g. I think it could happen that we haven't got our hands on it yet. Probably many others here as well, so you can make an experiment.

These are the recent models, so even with a few days delta in production dates heads may be different.

As Dmitry implied, someone has to be the first to try. So, swap them out and let us know your result.

The blue one is the donor.
Even if the HDD Model is not the same or as recommendation is some websites like donordrives:
WD20NMVW-11EDZS2 and WD20NMVW-11AV3S2
anyway, I'll try to swap to see the result.

Hello,
WD20NMVW-11EDZS2 is Shrek LT family too.
The PCB code on the working hdd (WD20NMVW-11EDZS2) is 2060-771961-001 rev B
The PCB code on the non-working hdd (WD20NMVW-11AV3S2) is 2060-771961-001 rev A
Kind regards,

I have swapped these and they work. If preamp vendor and rev matches, you should be good to go.
However, I'm a little concerned that your patient has a small dent of the lid, near where the platter surfaces begin...

I confirm,
I swapped the heads between these HDDs, and it worked for me.

chinopk,
The new version of PC3000 can access data on WD drives even if they are encrypted.
