Hello All,

Patient HDD sustained physical shock whilst powered on. Heads failed immediately. Attached image of failed heads - given the shape of them I'd say there's every chance they have damaged the platters.

The first set of donor parts used the drive would spin up, keep spinning and not make an attempt to calibrate. When donor parts were replaced back to donor they work normally. Given these results I'd be almost certain this was due to donor part incompatibility given the non-match on the SN and site. Quite simply, these parts were used as they were in stock on the off chance that they might be close enough.

The second set of parts were ordered in for the job. On swap the HDD would attempt to calibrate, but get he familiar "FAIL Servo Op=0100 Resp=0007" errors in terminal. The terminal output replicated the output with the patient heads. HDD spins down after failed attempts to calibrate. However, on testing the donor parts back in the host they work normally.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

The FW and PN not exactly the same...
As far as I know, these DM are quite picky for head swap.

The donor ordered in was at a decent price so it was worth the purchase. Trying to find a match on all parameters on this HDD from a supplier within Europe is currently difficult. I've seen a few with a match on FW but a 1F2168-300 revision. A full match has been found in the USA, but as expected it is expensive.

tried altering head adaptives?

Just to share my experience with DM drives.

Always buy more than one donor.
Match the first 3 numbers or serial as well as everything else.
Be patient when you power the drive after a head swap sometimes it takes 5-10 mins for the drive to come ready.
Start the drive with head 0 disabled and re enable after the drive comes ready.
Move head adaptives from donor (although if the donor heads are giving servo errors moving head adaptives won't help).
Do selective file imaging, trust me the donor heads won't last a entire drive image.

I usually match exactly nothing (apart from electrical connectivity), use what i have at hand and make it 'compatible'.
Edit: sometimes family has to be the same...

Try Disable Head 4 And 7 In Your Case .Drive Should Be Able To Clone Rest Heads Easily IMHO
