Hi there I have a st3000dm001 hdd and it is no longer picking up in bios/ windows.

it sounds good spins no screechy noises and does the normal startup seek but it hangs the bios for several seconds on boot.

There was no indication of smart failures being on the cards before it failed, the computer was running and I forced powered off the computer as it hanged on shutdown.

I'm not too worried about the data so I'm open to try a pcb swap is this likely faulty or will it be an internal problem?

the drive is a data drive and was not used to boot.

what are my chances like to repair I have a usbttl converter if any one can offer some sugestions of what I amy be able to do to recover the drive?

cheers jono

Another guide this time about how it's possible to use a TTL adaptor to check if a Seagate PCB it's dead and in need to be replaced or if it's at least responding to TTL :

ill try log in and see if it respondsbut I have one question what is the voltage of these drives as i don't know if my converter is 1.8 volt tolerable

As you can imagine I'm on the market for a new drive in the 4tb region or above.

I want something that will last longer than this one did maybe something with a better track record.

Currently I have a 4tb WD4000FYYZ-01UL1 and I have been happy with it and it is my only other really big drive of which I have no backup for now because of this failure.

What would be a drive that someone would recommend?
