WD20EZRX - 00D8BP0.
The drive is very slow to react.
Takes 10 mins just to get to the utility screen but does start up 'normal'.
Both ROM or RAM head map shows no heads.
Drive does ID but that's all.
No SA by searching.

Unfortunately not. I get this error message and the ROM is within the Controller.

Can you read ROM with Pcb disconected?
October 9th, 2015, 3:51
DDRecovery ,
Focus on Head 0 And 1 .Change The SA ABA of Copy 0 To Copy 1 And Try Like This Drive Would Be Fooled To Read SA From Copy 1 .Try It in Reverse Too .

Yes I can (you forget the basics when a strange error message comes up

) I have attached FYI. I have tried booting with each head in the ROM but the drive just goes to ERR. Tried changing SA Regions as this is a 20B, but cannot get access to SA via CHS or ABA.

I did moved the regions but could not get access to SA.
I did complete a hot swap a little while ago (basic not smart) and could read all critical modules. I then tried to save these modules to complete a smart hot swap but the drive began laboring and struggling to read with sporadic spinning down. So I think Jono is right it does look like head failure, just with a more unusual way for the drive to react. Thanks everyone.

This case has been resolved with the help of drHDD. It was a mixture of corrupt firmware and weak heads. drHDD is highly skilled and if anyone needs a little extra help, I know he is willing to sign in and assist. He can be PM'd through this forum.
