is this repairable?

April 1st, 2016, 11:49

I went to swap out a PCB and noticed the contact pins on the HDD were bent/maybe broken. Is this something I can carefully bend back?

Right now the drive spins up for a second and then spins back down so obviously some of the pins aren't making contact..

See attached image.

Thank you.

I asked myself the same question..I'm guessing someone tried to put the wrong PCB on the drive at some point and smashed the pins??

That looks ugly, and all that damaged/bruised plastic.
What hard drive is it? It might be a bit more than a pcb swap?
Adaptives etc. might have to be taken in to consideration.

You will only get one chance!
Bend each pin more than once and it will snap.
You might have to consider soldering all the connection points with wire though I would not really recommend doing so. Head preamp is extremely sensitive to small induced voltages leaking from the iron. Could cause more damage.

All the irons I've used, including the cheap ones, have had grounded tips.

You can try to bend them back with a needle or similar...but carefully as HaQue said.
