Hi there.

I removed my GoFlex Home External HDD from its enclosure and connected it internally only to find that it was not recognized.
I plugged it back into the external enclosure's base and it works perfectly fine.

According to this post: https://forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php ... 83#p175183 the issue is that the external bridge makes use of a different LBA than the internal drive natively uses without the bridge.

So, is it possible to convert my external Seagate drive to an internal one without data loss? I have almost 2TB of data stored on it and don't have a comparable amount free space on another drive.

Hello,
Not recognized in that the bios / OS doesn´t even see the drive, or bios / OS see the drive but show it as unpartioned / unformatted ?

You also didn´t state which is the Brand / Model of the drive.

Even if there is a way to "change " the configuration of the drive, it would be advisable to make a backup. So, can´t you borrow a drive from a friend, backup your data, then partition and reformat the drive when connected internally to your computer ? It would reduce risk of losing your files.

OS sees the drive but it shows as unpartitioned/unformatted (when used internally).

It's a 3TB Seagate Barracuda drive, pulled form a GoFlex Home external enclosure

It would still be easier to backup / format / restore.

But please read the first sectors of the drive with winhex, and post them here. Then people with more experience can investigate if your drive is just encrypted or not.

When you install your external Seagate HDD as an internal drive, you end up with a 4Kn file system on a 512e physical drive. In other words, the file system is reporting that it's sector size is 4KB but the HDD is reporting a sector size of 512 bytes. I can't see how you can get around this problem without reformatting. ICBW, though.
