Sorry i don't understand. Are you saying the last recovery company i went to had intentionally or not damaged my hdd?

No idea about the condition of the other states. If data is unrecoverable, why is a recovery company ordering parts for this now?

Who took the picture you posted? Is the drive with a DR company now, and they gave you this picture, and at the same time they said they will order spare parts for this and recover your data?

The drive is with Kroll now. Before I went to them, I went to two other companies. The first company took a month plus to get back saying data unrecoverable. They were able to clone an image of the drive though. The second company only took a day to evaluate and they were the one that sent me the above picture saying data unrecoverable. Now Kroll is saying parts have been ordered in their report online.

If this a actual photo of your drive ?
I would not advise to spend any parts on that one

The thing is Kroll does not charge unless data is recovered. And they went ahead to order the parts independently.

If that is actually your drive, don't waste any money on it. Even if the other platters aren't as bad, you're not going to get back any significant amount of data worth paying for.

I could be mistaken, but I believe that Kroll's policy is they only charge if data is recovered. However, it doesn't matter how little or much they recover. If they manage to save one useless Windows system file, they expect you to still pay the full amount. Gotta read the fine print my friend.

We recently had a case where we had a 2.5" hitachi drive where we were able to read about 98% of the drive. Sadly, the 4GB of data that they wanted was stored within the first 5% of the drive and after we finally conceded that we were not going to get any more, even though the drive still was quickly coming ready, we gave up. When we opened the cover, the top platter surface was completely gone. We were very fortunate to get 98% of the drive imaged, however, we were only able to get about 30% of the target data.

So, I can see how the first company might have been able to get a clone, but not a full recovery...and subsequent companies will be lucky to get a 75% clone, if they even bother to try.

I've posted the email Kroll had sent. There only seems to be a 100 dollar charge if I do not proceed with the recovery. Point 7. And I've agreed to this before I had sent my drive to them. I do not know why they are attempting to recover data from this drive but l'll wait and see.

The problem is the drive has already been to 2 companies prior to Kroll.
Each hand the drive has been through the drive would have got worse.

I know customers like to shop around, but after the 3rd or 4th quote the drive is just about done usually.
