L.s.,

I have an audio device with a build in harddisk. On a bad day the display said "no harddisk found".
I builded this IDE disk in an enclosure (USB), I could quick format the disk with windows 10, and I used some diagnostic software. Western Digital Data Lifeguard says everything is fine. Seatools for windows says says FAIL during a short generic test, immediately after the start, during random read. crystal disk doesn't see the disk. I did a complete format, and I can see the disk in Windows 10 and I can drag and drop data.
What is wrong with this disc?

Might be that audio device uses a different FS that you have created using win 10 ?!

Can you please provide a little bit more details? What audio device is this? What kind of HDD was in your audio device. With what File System have you formated the hdd?

Possible. It is a linux based machine. But does it rally matter? The hardware itself should work on both Linux and Windows (10).

The machine is a Hifidelio Pro made by Hermstedt. In America callled Olive.

Originally there was a 160GB harddisk fitted in. A harddisk upgrade is done often succesfully.

I formatted the HD in NTFS.

Ok, after a quick search, I found some info about your system. There is said, that there is something stored on your disk that your system needs to run. Is there a CD-Rom drive on the system? Because some people say that there is something like a recovery CD / DVD to format and recover the Hifidelio Pro System.

In any case, if it is a linux based system, it's verry unlikely that it's going to work with ntfs.

I was testing my harddisk the best way possible. I thought using it in a windows 10 system and formatting the drive is some way of testing the HDD. I did not format it for using it in the Hifidelio, it willl be whiped in the Hifidelio anyway. But there is a problem and I dont know what.

Can you show us the drive's SMART report? You can use HD Sentinel or smartmontools (Linux).

After the complete format in win10, have you installed the disk back in the HiFidelio and tried to restore it through whatever means it uses ?

Does the restore procedure identifies the HD ?

Sorry, I have no Linux installed. I have windows software to test a harddisk.
I will put the HD in the Hifidelio but I am worried about recognizing the HD. Still haven't any idea what goes wrong.

HD Sentinel is a Windows application. It may be able to access your SMART data where other tools may not. I suspect that CrystalDiskInfo may be having difficulty communicating with the USB-IDE bridge IC in your external enclosure/adapter.

You may be able to see your drive's file system using Linux Reader for Windows (freeware):

Ok, can you connect the disk directly to a computer, then run the Seatools utility ? not using an usb enclosure.

If Seatools then finds the drive, run the full test and see if it considers the disk healthy

You say that the original drive was a 160GB model. Are we to understand that the 500GB replacement HDD had been running successfully in the Hifidelio (after you had hacked it), and that it has just recently begun to misbehave? Or are you having trouble replacing the original 160GB drive with your 500GB Seagate?
