Recovery of Hitachi Deskstar 0A35415 HDP725050GLA360

Hi Guys and Gals,

firstly, Hello! - my first post :)

Recently lost this HDD in a server and had it shipped back so i could attempt recovery.

I spent some time researching and calling potential DR companies, but frankly i wasn't filled with confidence after my conversation with any of them - it sounded like they were either ripping me off, or didn't actually fully understand the problem (couldn't explain the recovery process to me fully .. and i'm a techy), and prices seemed to vary wildly. Thus i gave up - and thought maybe id have more luck here?

The HDD spins up, and clicks a few times, then goes quiet (still spinning). I did some googling but couldnt find conclusive info on what the problem might be - or a fix. I'm assuming i might need to swap some components from a donor? I've opened drives before, but i've never performed a hardware recovery / swapped parts from a donor - but i would be comfortable attempting to do so if needs be.

Other threads i've found seem to be specific to Seagate, and seems to be conflicting info about what donors are compatible or not? I figure it's best to just produce as much info as i can and maybe the answer is then obvious to someone?

Sounds like bad heads.

Requires compatible parts, cleanroom work, drive firmware tools, skills etc.....

So, not DIY :-(

We would charge £395+vat for this, assuming platters are in good shape and the drive has not been tampered with (I.e. Opened)
