Yesterday a friend brought me an external hdd. When I plugged the hdd in my system, the device started but it failed to migrate. In the event viewer i get the following error:
Code:
Device USBSTOR\Disk&VenSeagate&Prod_Portable&Rev_0130\00000000___&0 could not be migrated.
Last Device Instance Id: USBSTOR\DISK&VEN_OLYMPUS&PROD_VR360_D760&REV_1.00\UNB008217&0 Class Guid: {4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Location Path: Migration Rank: 0xF000FC000000F120 Present: false Status: 0xC0000719

After that i went to the disk manager and I found out that disk is shown up as 2TB disk when it actually is 500GB. (Seagate 9sd2a4-500)

I've tried to recover partition with testdisk but in the note it says:
Quote:
'Note: Disk capacity must be correctly detected for a successful recovery. If a disk listed above has incorrect size, check HD jumper settings, BIOS detection, and install the latest OS patches and disk drivers.'

Disk IS incorrect size, HD jumper settings should be ok (it is an external hdd - I didn't open the enclosure), BIOS won't detect the device, I have the latest OS patches and disk drivers. Even with that I tried to recover the partition with no luck.

After that, I've installed easeUS Partition manager and tried to remake partition with no luck. When it asks to select a partition from a list nothing shows up and I can't proceed.

I'm out of ideas, what else should I try? I have access to a Linux laptop (Ubuntu) if someone suggests something to try with linux.

Excuse me if I didn't write something properly but I'm a first time poster here.

First of all, take the drive out of the external chase and connect it directly to the computer.

I connected the hdd via sata in my PC, it doesn't get recognized. Again, it shows up only as a name in device manager and when trying to initialize it there is an I/O error. I think it's busted.
