DCM on new WD's - gone?

January 12th, 2017, 5:43

So I'm booking in a new 2.5" 3TB WD into stock from a job that I just completed, looked for the DCM....... it doesn't have one.

WD30NMVW-11C3NS4

It has DCX but I've never bothered noting or recording DCX info.

Am I going crazy, not looking properly or is there no longer DCM listed on these drives?

The only WD30NMVW I have seen has a thin "C" shaped label and no DCM.
The WD20NMVW has a bigger label and does have the DCM on it.

Just in case you weren't aware, there is a DCM in module 02 and in module 0A. The DCX appears to be related to the family code.

Yep, you have DCM on SA.
There is another question - is it useful for you?

For donor matching with certain families, yes it is.

There is no sensitive info for matching heads, only common information.

Well it works for me and a good few other pros whose knowledge I respect, so each to his own.

If someone is looking for a donor with bad heads who doesn't have to access SA, a copy of the DCM in SA will not help

This is what I extracted from the HDD Guru files area:

    WD30NMVW-11C3NS2

    S|BWL|PMMJH5C2REVMKCUB - mod 02 (SA)
    |W|MJ52EMF - mod 0A (ROM)

Code:
DCM = | W | M J 5 2 E M F
      : : : : : : : : : :
      : : : : : : : : : unknown
      : : : : : : : : top VCM
      : : : : : : : ACA
      : : : : : : bottom VCM
      : : : : : HSA
      : : : : media
      : : : preamp
      : : latch
      : base
      spindle motor

If your ROM tool doesn't provide this information, then you might like to try mine:

fzabkar,
DCM code practically does not affect similar across the heads.
Only a little more likely.
Аlready 8 years old do not look DCM.

Specifies compatibility only the totality of the heads of adaptive parameters.
No external signs which do not guarantee that the head will fit.
Only slightly increase the likelihood.
