WD MyBook 2TB external drive (encrypted) dead [FIXED]

This really isn't a "need help" post, rather it's a "I managed to fix it, maybe it might help someone else".

Received a 2TB 3.5" external WD MyBook system, and alas it was not turning on at all, and of course the drive data was encrypted. Didn't have a lot of viable options but I decided I'd try repair the USB bridge board and had success.

Turns out it was the SMPS controller on the board that had blown. I got lucky this time. If you do a voltage test and see 0V on both legs of the on/off switch button on the logic board, then there's a reasonable chance it might just need the SMPS controller changed, trick is you'll need a donor ( at least until I take the time to evaluate a possible replacement ).

Have a YouTube video of the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yufLqOl ... aDfC_63dFY

Sometimes a simple electronic repair can save a lot of trouble !

I consider myself insanely lucky that the shot-in-the-dark worked. I must put the time in though to find out what that SM controller is, or at least a suitable replacement.
