MFT corruption

January 6th, 2017, 9:52

Hello everyone and Happy New Year!!

Patient drive:
2.5" Seagate Momentus Thin ST500LT012
Partitiong:
EFI GPT

Symptom:
Was in a friend's laptop(internal) and one day, without fall or something else, missing operating system error shown.

Needs:
Recovery of photos

Procedure(so far):
A)Clone to a new drive with Media Tools Pro, almost 7000 sectors BAD from a total of 976.773.168
B)New drive seen as RAW on my PC
C)Easeus Data Recovery Wizard Pro found and recover ALL needed files BUT almost 70% of photos are not shown correctly..
some had lines, others color mismatch etc
D)Trying TestDisk to fix MFT, with the purpose of getting the contects of the drive and do a chkdsk for repair the files(90% of similar cases, chkdsk repair with success all corrupted files) but TestDisk cannot repair MFT.. "MFT and MFT mirror are bad. Failed to repair them."

Any ideas for next step??

Thanks

Thanks for reply Spildit ;)

Just finished the scanning with GetDataBack, photos are still corrupted, but the strange thing is that corruption
is not exactly the same as with Easeus..
i mean, same photo recovered with Easeus had lines on top, with GetDataBack had lines on bottom...same thing
with all recovered photos, corrupted but not exactly the same kind of corruption..

Took a 2nd image, with less bad sectors(5763 bad, this is a another strange thing), to a different HDD(to be sure) and will scan it with R-Studio to see what happens.

I think that this corruption will gone if somehow be able to chkdsk that partition..
When i try to chkdsk, gives an error "unable to determine volume version and state. chkdsk aborted"

Never and nothing to patient drive, only on clone!

Finally, i figure out the cause of the corruption problem..
I had to chose the whole drive, not only the main partition on GetDataBack search, after that, all photos and vids are 100% correct!! :)

Thanks Spildit for replies ;)
