Seagate ST3000DM001-1CH166 7200.14 CC29 Boot 0x40m Loop

I've got 2 of these drives that I was going to bin but saw some people repairing this series, all though most of the guides were for the 7200.11 drives.
Neither of the drives are detected in bios but spin up fine with no obvious clicking problems.

So far I've used a CH340G based board and an arduino mega for TTL to usb conversion and used picocom and gtkterm for terminal interface.
I've tried starting the drive with and without a piece of paper to shim the drive head contacts, but haven't tried shimming the motor contacts.

But so far all I can get is 'Spin Up'. And then 'Boot 0x40m' repeating endlessly. And it doesn't respond to keyboard input.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just in case of the usual diatribe
I have all ready replaced these drives. I don't need to recover any information from them. I have no intention of putting any important information on them in the future. etc, etc. Just looking to get a bit more use out of them, but its basically either this or I take them apart to play with the neodymiums in them!

True, I was lucky that I had one drive fail within warranty, another I have all ready dismantled.
So with these 2, that's 4 drives I've had fail within about 2-4 years, and they sat next to a SAMSUNG HD103UJ with
'Power_On_Hours 0x0032 086 086 000 Old_age Always - 72540'
and they they fail without any warning.

But just hoping I can get a bit more value out of them, hoping someone might know whats going on with the error message and offer some assistance?

Agree, these drives are total crap and not worth repairing.

Repairing these drives would be like fitting wheels to a tomato... quite difficult and totally pointless!

Sell them for parts on Ebay, really cheap. It could help somebody.
