Checking WD Red Drive Before Installing Windows System

June 3rd, 2017, 14:52

Hello,

I have a new WD Red drive on which I am planning to install Windows system. To prepare it for usage and eliminate potential errors, is it better to use long formatting or Data Lifeguard Diagnostic?

If the WD Red drive is formatted with long formatting, will it lose some functions, such as TLER (which appears to be on the Red drives only)? Or are those functions permanently installed in the disk?

You could perform a full surface scan using MHDD (DOS) or Victoria or HDDScan (Windows). These tools will identify any "slow" sectors.
