Extreme Complex Case , Is someone ready to accept challenge

March 1st, 2018, 8:50

Hi Guys
I am dealing with a tough WD case & about to give up & finally will as community for some help.

Here is description ---
Hard disk is WD 2.5 " 500 GB , model no. -- WD5000BMVW - 11S5XS0
Inside is 1 TB disk , WD has converted it to 500 GB ( It has 3 Heads)
We got it 1 year back at that time Donor was not available ( this is bit uncommon model) so we returned to customer.
Customer sent to Stellar Informatics India which they retuned as Non recoverable.
Customer sent it back to us again , fortunately we were having donor . In clean room there was no scratches visible on platter,
Symptoms when powered were type of screatching noise (attached is the same) & spin down.
Donor is 100% compatible ( Dates of patient / donor vary with a single day) , Disk was not having detection even after successful transplant.
When put back heads in Donor , donor got perfect detection so there is no damage to downside platters too.
finally we suspect ROM may not be native , but there is no way (like Seagate F3) to check S/N ( at least I don't know) , (attached is ROM)
We tried donor rom and tone of sound changed & disk continued to spin (does not spin down)
What could the issue ,since we don't have access to modules Rom cant be regenerated, We have tried 15-20 Roms but its of no use.
Can someone pls. suggest a remedy or at least pin point exact technical issue ?
I am attaching all details of hard disk.

Without the appropriate instrumentation it is just guessing. Can you send photo of patient label?

Compare the date code on the label against the date codes on the PCB and ICs. I can help if you upload photos of same.

Hi fzabkar
Thanks for your help. Actually I have ensured both patient /donor are as close as possible. In fact there is only single days difference between dates.

I took your statement to mean that there was a possibility that the PCB or ROM had been swapped. Therefore, I am suggesting that you compare the date on the label of the patient against the date codes on the patient PCB/ICs. At the very least, compare the date on the ROM against the label.
