I do not have my annotations ready, but from memory you would need a board with the same firmware version as stated in those barcode stickers in the connector part of your board. Or would need the right software to read it from the MCU ( the big chip in your picture ) from the original board.
If you lost the original board, well, at least you would need good pictures of the entire drive so that one can see the codes.
Lacking an adequate tool, had to sift through a big pile of drives once to find a compatible one. I didn´t like those Maxtor slim drives, and that work just reinforced my opinion.

99% certain this will have other issues apart from PCB.
Most common issue is overflowed GList on N40P
I believe there was a free “fix” for this somewhere on the net.

Agree !!!
But the first issue is to find the PCB that will work or get the ROM from SA to flash on the available PCB. Only then you can check SA.
The "free" fix was a very old DEMO of a SD tool but it's LIMITED to Maxtor 541DX (2B020H1 2B010H1) - "Maxtor Athena". This tool will NOT WORK on N40P. The tool is posted on my site (SD Section) and also on the HDDGuru file section ...
Ah OK, now I remember! It was some years ago!
