Hello! My first post!
I received today a WD my passport 500gb with broken usb connector and failed initio ic. I am trying to do the sata cable, but i cannot power up the disk since the +5v track is destroyed (don't ask me how...). Is there any testpoint or other place to give the disk power? I cannot track it by myself...
Thanks a lot!

does your PCB beside USB connector has 12 Pins? you can give power there if so. i try it before.

but the point is you need to make it a connection with SATA interface for access data. do you have experience on kind of soldering work?

It might be helpful here if you show us a picture to see the extent of damage

Assuming that the original problem was a connector issue, then repairing the physical damage would be the most prudent approach. Use wirewrap wire if necessary.

If you are connecting via SATA, then your data will be encrypted. That's why your OS is not seeing the file system.

No , encrypted via usb controler chip. conecting via sata is skip usb controler chip .

still encrypted if you bypass the usb connector with a sata bridge.

When your OS writes to the drive, the USB-SATA bridge IC encrypts the data. Therefore, when you read data back from the drive, you need the same bridge IC to decrypt it.
Use a hex editor to view sectors 0 and 1. Then you'll understand what is happening.
