This WD HDD fell from table height while transferring files. I then ran a chkdsk it failed in stage2 with a message " failed to correct errors due to insufficient space" . I re ran chkdsk then it got stuck at stage 2 11% for almost 8hours .Then i closed the cmd window tried to access my hdd. It didnt appear in windows nor in linux ....diskmanagement tool in windows shows hdd cannot be initialized due to fatal hardware issues .

Hello,

running chkdsk on a damaged drive that you need the data from is a bad idea. Physically damaged drives need special cloning equipment and proper cloning strategy available at reputable DR companies, so i would suggest contacting one in your area without further torturing the disk.
Amarbir should be able to cope with it, i remember there were other members from India but can't recall right now...

No, the game is over for that drive. It is only the data that might be recoverable but the more you power it up the less chance you have.

I will tell you this, there is no such thing as "hdd maintenance software". Treat your hdd as a fragile glass item, keep backup of all important data in another hdd(or better onedrive incl in office 365 6 users 6TB 1 year pack which usually sells for around Rs.3500 during amazon oct sale) & routinely check your hdd health by some software like crystaldiskinfo or hdtune, that's it. Other than this all depends on your luck which you can do nothing about.
