WD5000BMVW-11S5XS0

April 20th, 2020, 17:30

Hello
I am stucking with the drive in topic.
I have tried close matched donors without any luck. ( close DCM, close Date and close ROM ver )
I always having problems with matching donors with this drive in particular.
FB and FBLite are very forgiving with each other as a donors, except that puppy.
ROM ver 003003V

Thanks for any suggestions

The question is what is the exact parameters should I match for a perfect compatible donor for this particular drive for changing heads?
Thanks for your input.

As always, preamp and heads count

head type is not less important.

The only Issue I face with this model Head swap is the physical Heads count , it always changed from device to another . i mean it may be 012 or 013 or even 023 , so i prefer to take 1 tb donor for this 500

Head map is : 1,2,3
All donors I have are 4 heads (1 TB )
Some donors makes the drive clicking and others makes the drive busy for a while then ready without any SA access even with matched ldr.
I have worked with a similar drive 2 years ago and didn't remember if I figured this issue out or not. :)

Matching preamp type for this particular drive is really PITA.
As I searched all over the forum and found that many people have a compatibility problem with the same drive.

I have found a perfect donor, but head map is 0,1,2 and the patient is 1,2,3.

I know that I am not lucky enough

At least I have got side 1 and 2 :D
Waiting for another donor to complete 3
In theory I think it is possible to flip the top platter and read side 3 with head 2?

Nope. The data would be streaming backwards.

I see.
Without flipping ( Top platter with the bottom platter ) ?
If we are talking about Shrek with 4 platters and we will change platter #4 with #3 ?

Re. "Top platter with the bottom platter," the top platter won't have an SA, so that won't boot. I'm not knowledgeable enough to know how zone tables are checked against address markers found on tracks, but assume they are checked. If they are, swapping platters #3 and #4 wouldn't work either.

I can do that but i think it is beyond the knowledge of many dr people.

Doing what? Swap between SA platter with none-SA platter? Or swap between two none-SA platters? Or both? :D

Thanks Mr. LarrySabo and Mr. Pepe for the valuable info.
