I've been searching for a head unstick tool for this HD st4000dm000 8 heads, 4 platters. It looks like it's in the lombard family but no one makes a compatible tool that I can find anyway. I found compatible head replacement tools though. Any thoughts? I suppose I'll have to learn other methods.

Bad idea of DIY, this drive are a pain to recover more if they have stiction, if you manage to remove the heads from the platters without scratching them most likely those heads wont do any good. Safe solution take to a lab and let a professional handle this recovery, no for beginners. IMHO.

Thank you for the response! I am sure you're right. I rather mess it up though than get reamed by the recovery service costs. I do have an interest in learning this skill but you are right that I should pick some other drive type that isn't of value to practice on.
