Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi Guys,
Had this drive with s stuck head, unjamming didn't work, and could not find an identical donor drive.
PATIENT:
Model : ST1000LM035-1RK172
Serial : WDE8XWVF
Firmware : SBM3
Part Number: 1RK172-568
SITE: WU
DOM 19APR2017
DONOR:
Model : ST1000LM035-1RK172
Serial : WL1ED0SQ
Firmware : SDM3
Part Number: 1RK172-036
SITE: WU
DOM 25JUL2018
Then I found information about successful cases of head swap from not completely matching donors.
With this donor after a head swap managed to scan a small part of MFT.
This revealed some of the customer's data, but the remaining comes as unreadable with UNC ERR
Cannot get much via terminal either, seems like my PC3K (5.2.6) is not supporting this family completely.
Any suggestions which way I may be able to go or would exact match have better compatibility.
Happy to pay for assistance.
Regards

Well... it's a rosewood
This model was born to be a laboratory rat, they grow like mushrooms in autumn in all laboratories... and unfortunately they are not always recoverable
The problem can be weak head or damage to surfaces, I would bet on the latter (or a combination of both) and being the model that it is, the new heads will end up dirtying / damaging, in not much time ... and in passing, destroy the SA.
It would try to save first of all all the critical modules and then to recover the heads/surfaces that are well, if it is that it has them......

Some will tell you that it is not such a bad model, that if you know them well, you can even go have a few beers with them ...
Well ... I know them better than my wife and it hasn't even crossed my mind to go out with them for a beer ...

Yeah heard that they can be often b*tchy in a relationship, but was hoping I can get something out of this when she starts revealing herself. Our date didn't go by plan though, able to scrape out only one file.
So what is your advice, break up? Or shall I source 10 random stranger donors until I get files one head at a time?
I haven't had much luck in disabling heads or even reading modules either as it is not recognising it in a terminal mode by family. Hence modules don't show up when read.
Would my ancient PC3K be the reason or my unfamiliarity with these rats?

i think it is very risky to get into a recovery process without the ability to back up the firmware and disable some unneccessary features.
You need to be able to deal with locked drives if you want to be in DR these days, so decide if you upgrade your existing tool or get a new one.
