Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I've seen several Seagate USB drives and all of them had an offset out of the box, something like:
- Code:
Partition ### Type Size Offset
------------- ---------------- ------- -------
Partition 1 Reserved 128 Mb 17 Kb
Partition 2 Primary 5588 Gb 129 Mb
My first motive was to repartition it because I needed no extra mess in a layout, but on second thought I left it as is. So is there a reason for this? Perhaps less wear on track 0 or so?
