Just posting to see if anyone else has had 'curious' cases with new SpyGlass 2 / SMR disks. Here's what happened to one I had in:
WD50NMZM-59HZKS1
Read SA. All modules read OK, with the exception of module 190 on both copy 0 and copy 1 (see screenshot).
Applied lock to UA write.
I notice that full LBA range appears readable with what looks to be good data.
Disk imaging takes place, reading 99.9% of the surface of the disk. About 4GB unreadable, mostly towards the start of the LBA range, including parts of the HFS catalog file
Partial rebuild of filesystem possible by setting up a virtual FS in Data Extractor and scanning for HFS.
About 2TB of files reported. Many open fine. The majority do not.
Decided to scan in R-Studio. Then at the end of the scan I saw the graphical analysis of the disk. See attached.
It looks like the failure in mod 190 is causing the translator to loop an initial LBA range over and over again. I estimate it is the first 115GB of data repeated.
I contacted Ace TS. No repair/rebuild of mod 190 possible currently. PBA access is possible to access full LBA range, but due to SEDv2 RAW recovery not possible.
Loving SEDv2 & double translators!
Regards,
John
