Hello,

I have problem with SAMSUNG HD154UI.

It starts to be unaccessible. After connection, spinning up, the initial reading sound repeates more times. And after about 1 minute one of these notifications pops up.

Fortunately I have one another same HDD, so I swapped PCB but issue is same.

Disk doesn't appear in Disk Management app of Win10

The parameter is incorrect.

File comment: D: is unavaliable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted."

I connect it via external USB case. In this case, it appears and disappears in Device Manager for a few times and then notifications appear.

If I connect it via HDD docking station included slots for 2 SATA HDDs and SD cards (also USB), then HDD stays in Device manager. But still not in Disk Management. So maybe I can access some Events, but I don't know if it's helpful.

I will try to connect ext. case via SATA cable on different notebook but there will be probably same results?

Probably media issues (bad sectors aplenty), nothing to do with PCB.

If the data isn't important enough to pay for recovery professionally, you could try cloning it AT YOUR RISK.

But you'll really need to do this via a direct SATA connection (NOT via USB) and use a Linux tool such as ddrescue or hddsuperclone.

Thank You. But is there some Windows tool for cloning? I don't have Linux on any of my computers.

This drive has 3 platters inside so it needs too much power that an USB hub can't provide. Connect the drive to a desktop computer with a good power supply!

That's not the issue. I'm connecting it via external box with separate PSU.

The number of platters is irrelevant. A USB hub provides +5V power. A 3.5" drive also needs +12V.

Clean the HDA contacts with a soft eraser. It probably won't help, but it's a possibility that you should at least eliminate.
