May 13th, 2021, 2:48

Hi Im trying to recover my data from a HDD and Ive tried many different tool. It seems the data is still there as the file structure still seems to be there but I dont know what to do with it as Im getting strange files and files with extensions I've never seen before. How do I put all these files back together again like Humpty Dumpty? Or is it a real Humpty Dumpty? Here are some screen shots. I appreciate your help!!

What software have you used to do that scan for the files and how did you scan, it looks like a raw scrape.

What was wrong with the drive initially.
What file system is on it.
Was there any encryption involved.
What application have you tried.
What's Make and model of drive.

We need a little more info to give guidance.

To confirm - you copied all your files from another drive onto this drive? When you say backup drive do you mean a drive you keep as backup and copy files to or a drive used by specific backup software.

Your choice of application wasn't ideal try something like - r-studio / DMDE / UFS explorer. I find r-studio the easiest to use. Good practice is to clone the drive before proceeding with something like hddsuperclone - the risk is yours not to.

Point r-studio at the drive and see if you can see visible partitions, if not try the partition scan. Do not do a scan of the whole disk yet. Post an image if you can.

.. and when was your last virus scan?

ty, funny thing is this was supposed to be my backup as I kid you not I was going to make a backup the day before, for real. And this is my primary external drive.I shall try what you say and post some results, ty. Oh and yes I did a virus scan a couple days ago but no malware scan, I'll do that after I scan?

Could your software be responsible for the corruption?

https://www.magicuneraser.com/partition_recovery/

Disk, Partition and File System Recovery

    Fixes errors in disk system structures;
    Rebuilds badly damaged, overwritten and missing file systems based on information gathered during comprehensive analysis;
    Unformats formatted disks;
    Recovers broken partition tables and MBR records;
    Effectively fixes corrupted disk, putting them back to service.

TY, I am going to work on those suggestions you made earlier today, I shall post an update. As for the software corrupting it, I'm not sure it did as the drive was corrupted before the software install.
