I have 2 of these usb3 boxes whith internally mounted a WDC WD50NPZZ-00A9JT0 5000,9 Gb HDD.
Using one for a couple of weeks it gave me several data loss, so I decided to test the two devices with HDDscan.
There are slow (factory reallocated?) blocks affecting the first third or quarter of the total blocks.
This problem varies, here I left connected each disk on an usb 3 at the same time and it is the worst case, testing one disk at a time and leaving the other usb3 port empty, the problem is reduced and the range of the affected blocks is reduced to approx 100,000,000 and using the usb2 ports the "bad" range is even smaller.
I've thought that this could be due to the too low current supplied by usb ports but trying various ports on desktopo and laptop PC the problem varies but is still present.
Christal disk mark does'nt start the test and hdtune marks all sectors as bad.
Are these HDD defective?
thanks for watching
Steve
