Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hey
I have recently had a couple of Charger drives in for recovery produced in 2021.
It seems the ROM may have changed as they no longer work on the unlocked 800065 SATA PCB.
PC3000 SATA status register lights either do not show at all, or sometimes with ERR.
Drives do not spin.
Anyone else experienced this?

What about original PCBs? Are they behave normally?

have you checked the MCU PN? Same or different?

Yes they do. I did briefly get access to one of the drives via the USB Stabilizer.

Yes they are both 88i1053-NXZ2

Could this be an issue?

I have never had to drill down to that much detail in an MCU match, but its possible as the tail numbers are slightly different.
Also the USB PCB has a 512mb SDRAM and the SATA has 1g.

It's a Samsung, but the following thread illustrates what happens when there is an MCU mismatch:
https://forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=28714I don't know if it's a red herring, though.

I have killed 2 unlocked PCB 800022 and 800065
Its about after write Rom over MRT as I remember. I have killed 1 PCB after desolder solder again and again. 1 PCB bricked but cannot solve it. And bought again new ones
I have recognised, some Rom 512 some 1024. So maybe this differences about killing PCB
And write Rom with tool not a good behaviour for that PCB. (at least with MRT)
Desolder chip and write with programmer best way. So many time solved bricked . But I had killed 1 PCB somehow when desoldering operation.
