Deleted Hard Drive during Windows Setup

September 8th, 2021, 13:53

Hi. I have a HP latpop which has 256GB M.2 (OS) and 1TB HDD (Files). Recently I upgraded my M.2 to a larger capacity. When I am about to do a clean install, I accidentally deleted the 1TB from the Windows Setup. Problem is I can't find my external drive back-up. I didn't format the 1TB. Is there a way I can recover the files? I already tried EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard and Disk Drill. But unsuccessful.

Thank you in advance!

Yes, that's the window. Select ''Files', click 'Open Volume', do you see your folders/files?

I believe this model ST1000LM049 has smr and supports trim. Might be the reason why the data even in raw is corrupted. It does sound strange as OP reports not formatted but cleaned to remove partition. Would a drive with trim cause this to happen? I might research that on this drive.

Actually, only assumed the data is corrupted. Fingers crossed it can be recovered using software.

The OP wrote "I already tried EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard and Disk Drill. But unsuccessful."

It seems to me that both tools should have recovered something. The fact that DMDE has found an $MFT and copy of the boot sector would suggest that the partition may not have been TRIM-ed, so that is a weird result.

True fzabkar

Not used easus for a while but I would try r studio or recovery explorer to see if it gives a different result.

Then should the data be visible and worth the cost just pay for a license.

Hi everybody!

Just an update. I was able to recover all the files using EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard software. I think it was somewhere around 750GB of files. Looks like the WD Elements external drive I am using has some sort of a problem. Lessons learned. Thanks again!

The free version of DMDE would probably have recovered your data. If you had replied to Arch Stanton, we may have been able to show you what to do.

Congratulations anyway.
