Hi, I've got a 1TB H2T1000854S 2.5" which stopped being deteced by Windows 10 after a book struck the HDD whilst switched off. The HDD would turn on, it would make a buzzing noise as if the reader heads had failed. I purchased a replacement (same model and firmware) and initially swapped the PCB board. This did not fix the problem and swapped the PCBs back. I then swapped the platter without removing the heads (like in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i266jB0aP8E ) now the hard drive makes a noise as if the hard drive is unable to read from the platter here is my video of the noise (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTbiw_JPEUE ) I think the platter may have become mis-aligned not really sure. Anyways, could you please let me know if this is something which is still fixable/repairable?

Hello,

this was not a DIY job and it is even less now. Try to find somebody wanting to take your drive after this butchery. Expect a less sympatic number concerning the price.

I really hope that data wasn't important !

Please make sure you keep all of parts from both drives and label them if you haven't already. I'd not seen that youtube video before but it was painful to watch even at 2x. Most of us will work on opened drives however I think we all have a 3 figure surcharge as it usually means fixing additional damage before recovery.

Buzzing heads are bread and butter fixes - the state the drive is in now would mean a "complex" recovery with associated costs. If the data has significant value send it in now without messing further, otherwise it's a hard lesson about following youtube videos.
