The adapter is passing ATA commands, but something else is going wrong. It appears it accepted the enable vsc command, but then stopped responding / went offline. It is impossible to tell what is happening through the USB adapter.

In addition, are you making sure the drive is not being mounted? Make sure to turn off auto mounting.

Also, even when not being mounted, when the drive is connected Linux will try to do some reads to it initially. If you are trying to work with the drive shortly after connecting it, try waiting several minutes before trying the commands.

As mentioned in this video; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EN1HkJ ... SuperClone and running again this is the error I got, and yes I turned off auto mounting in Windows.

I had the adapter plugged in, although it seems to go idle after a while; therefore, I had to turn the adapter off, then on again; and then run the WD Fix and as mentioned, here is that error.

Code:
WD ROYL Patch Mod02
This modifies data in the service area of the drive!
Use at your own risk!
These commands can take several minutes and appear to be hung.
Please be patient and let it finish on its own.

2) Write the patched data back to the disk.

You aren't running this in a virtual machine, are you? If you are, that would be your biggest problem.

I'm running it from a USB Thumb Drive.

Maybe someone else can come up with more, but I think you have about 3 choices.

1. Seek professional data recovery. It should be relatively cheap at this point, as this should be an easy recovery for a pro.

2. Try to find a computer with SATA connectors that has the IDE option in BIOS. Then try to do the slow fix connected directly via SATA.

3. Purchase the Pro version of HDDSuperClone, and use it to clone/image the drive using the Direct USB mode and settings as explained in the following video:

There is a secondary video, but it is less helpful for USB:

Are you saying, all that I'm having problems with can be overcome by simply buying the Pro version ? Otherwise since I'm doing this myself, I have to connect the drive directly with a SATA connection, then try the slow fix first before clone ?
Otherwise if my first question is correct, the temporary license for HDDSuperClone I assume it doesn't need an internet connection when run from a USB drive only when first running and creating the USB Thumb drive ?

Normally for a drive like this you would first attempt to fix the slow issue. For some reason that is not working through USB, and I don't know why. It would be ideal to attempt to fix the slow issue with the drive connected via SATA, but given the failure with USB, it may or may not work when connected via SATA. The failure you are having through USB is not a normal failure I am used to seeing.

As for the Pro version, while I don't guarantee anything, using the Direct USB mode with maximizing the cluster size (and increasing the skip timeout to prevent skipping), you could/should have a similar result as demonstrated in the video, where you could drastically increase the read speed. As for needing an internet connection, yes you will need it for the temporary license every time you start HDDSuperClone.

That is what I was concerned with, if I have this problems with an USB adapter which you suggest; a direct SATA connection may cause the same issue.
I realize the when you said the Pro version requires internet connection that this is possible even when booting from a USB Thumb drive. Therefore, I'll get a temporary pro license in hopes, that I'm able to finally clone this drive.

How do I increase the read speed, when using the WD Fix and what does the Pro version do differently then the free version ? If I can get this drive connected to a SATA I'll try that within the next two days.

If you can successfully run the slow fix, it should put the read speed back to normal, not counting any bad sectors or bad spot there will likely be. If the slow fix can be applied, then the free version should be able to clone it without much issue.

In your case the Pro version would allow the use of the Direct USB mode, which would allow the very high cluster size (as per the video). The high cluster size would allow for greater read speed without fixing the slow issue. It would still be slower than normal, but increased enough to clone/image the drive without taking forever.

And just to be clear, the Pro version does not work miracles on it's own. It requires the end user to select the appropriate mode and settings to utilize its capabilities. In your case you need to use Direct USB mode, maximize the cluster size (to 65520 like in the video), and increase the skip timeout to prevent skipping.
