Simply change pcb between two WD3200JD-22klb0?

November 10th, 2021, 16:05

Hi all.
my wd3200JD-22klb0 went dead about power supply ( number 1 in photo)
I ask to you if it works to simply change the pcb with same model in photo 2 just to rescue my data

they has :
_same number model
_same drive parameters (LBA ecc…)
_same pcb number
_other?

_different place of production
_differentt pcb number sticker
_different dcm number about latch and bottom vcm
DSBACAJCH vs DSCHCAJCH

example of DCM: HSEHYV2AH

1- Motor (H)
2- Base (S)
3- Latch (E)
4- Bottom VCM (H)
5- Media (Y)
6- Headstack (V)
7- Actuator-Preamp (2)
8- Top VCM (A)
9- Separator (H)

_other ?

thanks in advance for your help

You will need to swap the bios of the faulty drive to the donor board.

the question is wether preamp survived. Needs checking, otherwise it can kill data.

Show us the other side of the PCB. Then we'll know if the 12V or 5V side of PCB was damaged. I can also show you the preamp test points.

MCU is toast, so likely the preamp as well. Still worth checking, but treat as likely failed.

Hi All
sorry for the wait

For now I've only put the good pcb on my disk: the disk starts but the pc doesn't recognize it...
Do you think it's a good news about preamp?
Can I go on to try to swap the bios of the faulty drive to the donor board? If yes can you show me where is on the board the bios?

thanks

HI pepe
I don't have with me the disk( it's under U12 swap) but once plugged with other board it makes no strange noise ( based on my humble knowledge... )

thanks

Please you were able to sort it. It's a good idea now to plan a good backup policy so you won't need to worry about recovery the next time.
