Seagate HDD suddenly not recognized

November 19th, 2021, 6:16

Hello!

I've a USB3 HDD that one day wasn't recognized anymore. I've dissasembled the case and checked the USB/SATA Adapter first with other drives but it was ok. So I connected the HDD directly via SATA to my PC. You can hear that the drive spins up smoothly but it it will not be recognized in the BIOS.

Then I remembered that I've a USB UART Adapter so I connected the faulty drive and cheched the serial output:

Code:

As far as I read some documentation one should be able to get a command prompt by pressing CTRL+Z but this has no effect on the fauly drive - nothing happens.

Actually this drive doesn't contain any critical data but I'm interessted if it's possible to revive this drive or mabye recover any data from it.

Do you have any advise how to start in this case?

Thank you

The drive has firmware problem, likely bad sectors, and possible mechanical problem.
No easy fix, sorry.
