BIOS ROM ERROR SEAGATE ST1000LM010 FreePlay

November 25th, 2021, 10:32

hello my noble data recovery hiking friends i have a Seagate ST1000LM010 drive, S/N W1000V9L4 Site WU, PN: 9YH146-550, FW:CC9F PCB card: 100609264 REV B Chip ROM 25x40bl14 winbond produced in china, same drive I had loud noises and head clicks and no access to the terminal, I went after the compatible donor and with a lot of struggle I found Seagate ST1000LM010, S/N: W100SMP1, Site WU, PN: 9YH146-550, FW:CC9F PCB card : 100609264 REV B Chip ROM 25U406B SANYO produced in china, I changed the head of the damaged hd from patient to donor and head from donor to patient, after that the patient now turns on and there is no read head click, the terminal returns the message below:

SEA4 Boot ROM 2.0 (03/24/2009)

Flash boot code checksum failure!

I went to check the bios with the bios reader plus the patient's bios is dead, don't read it on the recorder and on the PCB board, it doesn't even read the characteristic that is burned because it doesn't heat up, read the donor's bios that I'm going to share here, it has two errors , what solution can I use to recover the patient's ROM that does not read

my friend informed me to make a new attempt freezing with nitrogen nitrogen

what other solution

Yey! The ROM of the patient drive is dead/corrupt/changed.
What puzzles me is that you said the patient drive + patient PCB was clicking? That means the drive spins up, does it?
Have you saved patient ROM before you made any attempts?

the patient rom cannot be read from the beginning without terminal access, so run an error message

after changing the read head because access to the terminal was blocked before

It is a very strange coincidence, such chips do not get damaged that easily. Did you solder it before powering it up after the head swap?
It is possible to recover rom for this family with a good chance, if you can't get it read from the orig chip.

Probably ROM chip pins doesn't connect to PCB. solder it again.
Also ;
I have killed such type bios chip when heating before. It is sensitive .

yes, this case is very strange, well I did the removal after changing the reading head because I made the change and there is no terminal after changing the reading head the terminal returned the error message, then I tried to read the bios chip but unsuccessfully, if it worked I would see it in Seagate F3 explorer.

I believe this chip died, I've done another soldering and read on the EPROM recorder, I believe it died for good, the next solution I'm waiting for is to read the chip with liquid nitrogen plus nitrogen has not yet arrived, but I don't remember if the MRT or PC3000 has some tool to read an area of the system when the bios chip dies

wondering why you soldered it at all, sounds a pointless move.
l doubt nitrogen would help here. Sounds BS to me.
no commercial tools provide functionality to recover such case, i can help but it's not cheap, plus i need the drive on my desk.
