Removal of Head

January 17th, 2022, 10:28

Hi Guys,

I have started learning about Data Recovery and practicing opening Hard drives.
Currently, I am struggling to remove the Head. I need to know what tool do i need to use to remove the Head?
Please see attached picture ending with WA0006

Also, please can someone tell me where the ROM is located on this PCB

Thank you for the support.

The "ROM" is in the big Marvel CHIP.
There must be a screw under the head assembly.
PS: you must first remove the head-ramp and use some jig (bought ar DIY) to prevent damage to heads.

This looks like an old Tornado drive.
They don't have screw underneath, you just need to lift the heads.

Just remember - not to try to boot the drive as is (with the cover off).
In such a disc, the cover - at this model - stabilizes the positioner and the heads (together with the head mounting screw).
Without this stabilization, the heads will scratch the ferromagnetic surface.
