Where to buy Retail Box Hitachi HDD's

March 26th, 2022, 1:03

So after lots of consideration, I want to buy a new, Hitachi 2 or 4tb HDD w/the 5 year warranty.

But the ONLY place I could find a retail box was from B&H Photo - Amazon, Newegg, etc. have sellers that clearly don't have the volume to buy from the manufacturer so they are selling used drives claiming new or renewed or refurbished.

OK so Hitachi became HGST, then WD HGST and now it seems that all that's left is the WD UltraStar HDD which has Hitachi specs.

QUESTION: Are these "WD UltraStar" drives manufactured by the Hitachi factory? (Are they actually Hitachi drives?)

NOTE: If I could buy new ...4040... HGST drives published in the backblaze report, I would. But again, I can't find a place to buy new w/warranty.

some HGST products were sold under Toshiba name, like DT01ACA100, HDWD130, etc

Examine the WWN and R/N numbers on the label. Some WD Gold HDDs are rebranded HGST models.
