this is not true.
If the preamp is badly toasted, it can drive uncontrolled write currents to the writing elements, so it erases any data that gets in its way, be it user data or servo sectors. That said, and considering that drive is usually clicking in that state, one or more surfaces migth get badly hit by this erasure.

Well,
In My Last 7+ Years into data recovery ,I deal with atleast 1 preamp burned case a day i have never experienced this ,On the contrary i must say that certain times the flex ribbon cable gets burned leading to platter contamination with smoke ,So if that is the case we need to clean platters before a head swap .

did you run the drives with burnt preamp?

pepe

1 preamp failure a day would mean you get 100+ of drives daily, can you cope with that?

1 Per Day Means Approx 26 a Month ,Answer Is Yes i can cope
