Hi,

I just recently got a bunch of HC550 18TB non-sed 512e/4k SATA drives. I wanted to convert these to 4k/4k for use in ceph. So I went on my merry way and downloaded hugo and did;

Code:
./hugo f -b 4096 -m WUH721818ALE6L4

Now this turned out to be a bit of a mistake as it started formatting all 12 drives in the server in question. Which initially was fine, but the format took forever, and unfortunately I lost ssh connection to the server and hugo subsequently crashed. Only later I learned I should have used --fastformat.

A good 24hr later, I powercycled the server. And now, unfortunately none of the disks seem to work anymore. I can still see then with hugo s:

Code:
# ./hugo s

But they are unresponsive in regards to formatting them, and if the MegaRAID controller tries to configure them as non-raid devices, they are immediately marked as failed until reboot.

Trying to format one yields the following result:

Code:
# ./hugo f -b 4096 --fastformat --danger-zone -s 3RG71UXA

Format device on 1 Device(s)...
Failed: Format command Failed on device 3RG71UXA.
        Device will not be formatted.

Any advice at all would be greatly apprechiated.

Thanks!

Best,
Rune

I should add, whenever I actually try to do an operation like upgrade firmware, erase disk or similar, I get this 77830 error. Anyone seen this before or has any idea what it might mean?

Another thing is that I am unable to configure the drives in the controller, so that the OS can see them.

Code:
# ./hugo e -t -s 3RG71UXA

This will not work on devices currently running a self-test.

Are you sure you want to erase these devices? (Y/N) y

I don't know what 100% will help you, but can you try format with ordinary HBA?

Right. So attaching the disk to a plain SATA controller allowed me to continue the drive format where it left off when it was rebooted.

Thanks for the advice.
