Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hello, I have been holding on a Seagate ST3320418AS with a possibly fried board. I have been looking for an exact model to replace the circuit board but I've had no luck. The closest to I've found around in my country with a manegable price are ST3500s. I see that those HDDs have a very similar board. Is there a way to know if a newer model board is compatible before buying?
Thanks in advance!
