Maxtor tools reports N40P.

I've downloaded .ldr and .ram ...

How can I rewrite firmware with only a PC. (no PC3000 or other)

You Can Not...... send it to a datarecovery company who has pc-3K

I think that you need to look for help, from someone that can do the job.
And he can do the job with many tools, PC3K, HRT HDD.exe or something that he had developed to have access to SA.
Also you can put here where you are from and maybe you can receive a msg from a repair from your area.

World of hdd repair seems to be very unhospitable :

And all hints I receive is : call a data-recovery firm ... or someone who can do it

Lets gonna assume that if people that can do do this kind of job to support theyers family, will by force, to do another thing to live and to pay the nasty bills.

by the way the costs of a DM+8 drive is not so high, and maybe you can find somebody who will be happy with your defective one and $ you some.

In this case you could send it to me in budapest, then I send your data back.
Or find somebody nearby.
If you had tools, you would be in real trouble if you need the data.
There was somebody asking for modules, he had some SW too, none of the most important: experience. In a few days he killed his drive in such a way that even an expert could not have helped getting his data back.
So the better is to find somebody you trust.

People here are not being unkind - they are responding from experience.
This experience is many hours and even the best expert will admit that he fcuked up some drive (like Maxtor)
that he could fix easily today, but only after experience and learning how.

There is no program that you can run, click, click, voila! data in the bag.

Best to find someone nearby who can recover your data.

you know guys, maybe my problem is my age also my hair now with a different color, maybe something just hapened and I just did not see.
I'm sure that I really need to learn many things the problem is I think that I do not have time to do this anymore.

Ok, I read and I understand what you wrote, lets gonna assume that what you wrote is what you think.
First of all ( and this is my fear ) you need to read and you need to understand what is in the msg.
I do not assume nothing about you or your color or about the color of your hair, I do not know and I do not want to know.
I only undesrtand that you have a drive and your drive have a problem and the problem of the drive is causing a problem to you.
I will be more clear about the color of my hair and why I wrote this:
My hair are white and they have this colors not because I like the color but becouse of my age. And with my age comes my problem - no patience. Sorry if you read what I wrote and do not understand or do not figure out my msg.

Sorry for my thoughts be different from yours. At least a quite diffrent.
So I will do one thing here a "PRO-BONO" job.
But anyway lets go to the PRO-BONO. You ask and I will give you ( I hope some good Doctor can do sam eto my wife that needs ( and whants ) to be 20 years younger - sorry darlling but here at this place I will not get the money that you need )

1- Get the ATA device and put it at a hardware conector.
2- Turn it on ( after you turn the computer on ) put the right power - remember ATA device uses 12 and 5v. And use a turn on turn of separeted from the micro ( this include the power device.)
3-Now ( assume that you already had read the ATA 5 commands, put the disk in Manufactur Repair Mode.
4- Do the check at the firmware of the disk.
5- Read its ROM and after this pick-up the file ( something.bin ) and read it using a hex-dec util, compare this with a file from a good disk.
6- Check the phiscal structure of the disk, cylinders tracks and SPT.
7- Check the logical structure of the disk.
8- See the SMART table of yous disk and if he have TEC.
9- Check the P-list and also the Table of the MAP of the heads.
10- If some of this cheks will not be possible just put your question here at this board , so I will be able to continue.
11- Please send me all logs that you can get from your disk, and will be a pleasure to do an analisy for you. ( this is serius ).

Do any comment that you think that is necessary and do not hesited in ask about any daubts that the procedure could cause or interfire in your job. This is a minimum to start a job and to get a diagnosis from your disk.

I will be here for any help that you need since you are or will be able to get my instructions and to follow them.
See is not hard to get help in this board , since you think or you are prepared to receive the help that me or others are able to give.
I do not uderstand my job different from this that I'm writting here now.
