ST4000NM0043 offline after interrupted during 512 format

November 15th, 2022, 23:26

Hello,

As the tittle claims, we were formating several ST4000NM0043 (IBM branded) drives and by mistake, the server was turned down before the formating ended. Now the drives are detected just fine by the system and SO but won't spin up and are shown as offline by DRT-SCSITOOL (demo)

Tried to comunicate through TTL but don't know if it's the USB/TTL's guilty or what, but I wasn't able to comunicate to try to spin up them.

We have 7 drives with this issue, any help will be wellcome.

Thanks.

Connect all drives to PC via SAS-HBA (IT-mode) then start format again.

Thanks for the answer but already tried to do it, the drives are detected as it should but the SO (freebsd or linux) doens't assign them drive names and cannot be selected

I can't help you because I'm windows user. What kind of format u try to use? Is Sg_utils or SeaChest_Format can see drives?
You no need to use drive partition tools, but "low-level" utilites, what use SCSI FORMAT UNIT and MODE SELECT command. Is it clear?
