Hi,
I got a 1 TB USB-Disk which died. I do not hear click, click, click ...
So my hope is, that
- I can change PCB
OR
- I can solder a sata cable to some points.

So, every help is welcome.

You have 3 options:

1) Convert USB PCB to SATA by soldering SATA connector
2) Use a compatible SATA board (771960) and transfer "ROM" but then you will have to deal with encryption
3) Give the drive to someone who knows what s/he's doing, ie. a Data Recovery Lab.

Your biggest problem is that even after you convert this drive to SATA, you'll have to solve the original problem of the drive, and without tools and knowledge it won't be easy.

Thanks for the fast response

1) I will try tho use the soldering option. I have done it before with another usb hdd
1a) where have I to solder the sata cable?
1b) There is no problem with encryption from point 2?

2)How can I solve the encryption problem after changing the PCB?
3) Hm, I think thousands euro and more for the data recovery ... No.
I think, after direct access I can access through my linux laboratory pc to the hdd.

Hope it was detailed enough.
Any hints are welcome.

I will start from your last point.
Who said this type of recovery will cost 'thousands of euro'???
If the drive is not clicking, spins up and stays spinning and no data access (which is a very common scenario), then the price should be in the range of 200-500 euros max. But even if it's clicking and assuming there is no media damage, by no means the price will be 'thousands of euros'. On the other hand, if the drive has media damage and it is scratched, there's nothing you can do anyway.

Anyway, if you decide to go DIY that's fine, but first you have to accept the big likelihood that you mess something up and then... it will be a bad day for everyone.

If that's ok with you, then you need to solder wires to a SATA connector and then to E71, E72, E73 and E75, after you remove those crystals. If you do a search on this forum there are pictures wth the outcome. Then, connect to SATA and solve the original problem of the drive, and that will allow you to access data. Maybe.
Man, consult a DR lab before you mess it up and/or lose a lot of time.

well said, Northwind.
I would add that it is easy to double the dr costs by DIY attempts and u2b vids...
