I have an issue with head parking/spindown on my Toshiba HDD

January 27th, 2023, 17:40

Hello, its a Toshiba MQ01ABD100 1TB and i dont know if someone can help me here, but the drive spins down/parks head about every 4 seconds if it isnt asked for data. i use it in my ps3 console and this brings problems like 1,5 second freezes while playing a game, stopping the music of the game etc.
so i want to ask is there any way i could make the time longer or disable the spindown completely? in the firmware perhaps? (i dont really have knowledge about this all this) otherwise the hdd (and my ps3) are completely fine and if i use something like netflix or youtube it works perfectly too because its constantly streaming data.
ive seen hdparm suggested in this scenario but they didnt tell how to use it and also from what ive read its not permanent, so it would already be gone when i put the hdd back into my ps3.
thank you in advance!

send it command
00 00 00 00 00 A0 E3

i think it should be permanent
it can probably be done in hdparm, but i would need to read its docs to tell you exactly how, which you can do yourself as well.
