New WD HC530 SAS drive fail at low level format

January 31st, 2023, 4:40

Hi guys, I need some help please.

I have a new SAS drive WD DC HC530 14TB WUH721414AL5204 that doesn't show up at SAS controller after attempt to format it with wdckit v.2.14 with simple command
wdckit format --model xxxxxxxxxxx -b 4096

Previously it was formatted to 4k block size with --fastformat key and everything was done well. This time I let it job done overnight and in the morning I've got an error:
Error: Format failed on: XXXXXXXX

And the drive has gone from the system it simply disappeared. I gave him 48h more to make job done but nothing has changed.

It still normally spins up makes some internal tests and does some internal movements from time to time but it isn't detected by controller and by system. May be it can't finish some internal tests and sticks at BSY state I have no clue.

Is there any way to help him to get back to live? Once again it's a SAS drive.

Thanks.
