"Hello there!" Perhaps this is too elementary a question for this forum, but I can't think of anybody else to ask it of. I just purchased a 7200 RPM, 6GB Toshiba X300 HDD with a 128MB buffer. While the disk was empty, read/write rates measured by Crystal Disk were 240-250 MB/s.

Before I started filling the HD, Windows reported a write speed of 220-230 MB/s. After a few hours, the transfer rate dropped to 150 MB/s and remained there until the roughly 4.5 TB had been sent. No file exceeded 2 GB in size.

When I rebooted Crystal Disk after the transfer, it confirmed the 150 MB/s read/write speed. The benchmark results remained same no matter how many times I rebooted the PC, used other ports, or copied the data from different places. The 150 MB/s I was getting from my 5400 rpm WD Blue is now matched by this Toshiba. Is this Toshiba showing any signs of malfunction to you?

Thanks!

Regarding Seagate upgrades, it is already known that there are numerous new hard drives with ROMs that cannot be read and written directly. These belong to the AF family and cover some products from 2021 and most products from 2022. Additionally, there are new families starting from family ID 0xCF. We have collected relevant model information, and the next update will provide support for them
