in this case, should i search for a donor with same pre-amp value on module 0A (4th character)?
Is this enough without knowing DCM code?

Hi!
Look for head type in 0a module first.
Possible donors are (from platter capacity database):

WD10EZEX-xxRKKAx/xxZF5Ax/xxBN5Ax/xxKUWAx/xxMFCAx/xxM2NAx/xxWN4Ax/xxBBHAx 1TB (1/2)
WD10EZLX-xxK4KAx 1TB (1/2)
WD10EZES-xxUFAAx 1TB (1/2)

Good luck!

I don't think they are compatible for head swap. :?
What do you think?

All of them has same platter capacity, same case, same rpm.
....and some of them are , in same family, and has same PCB.
What do you think?

Past week i have changed heads between WD5000AAKS and WD5001AALS (different PCB, same family and rpm, and head dcm, AND the AAKS is blue, and AALS is black). They were compatible.

One moth ago i changed heads between HTS515450A7E680 and HTS725050A7E630

If you dont have right donor, then sometimes you have to choose another way.

Hi,
i swapped heads, patient drive got ready once i powered it.
I was doing module backup when it started clicking while was reading module 21.
It got error also on mod 11.
Now it just click. I mounted donor heads back to donor drive, they're dead! :(

In your opinion, are this symptoms due to incompatible heads or due to some sort of damage on patient SA ?

Patient HSA label has different number than donor HSA label.
In your opinion is this donor compatible or not?

You're right pepe, SA must be damaged because now i see debris on donor head 0. :(
Would a hot swap help in your opinion? I was able to backup from patient only modules 01 - 02 - 03 - 0C - 10 - 1B
Or better making boot SA on head 1?

Heads are compatible, but media were damaged.

Before HSA swap i always inspect sliders under microscope.

I think this drive is gone now.

I don't see any scratch or any debris on top surface, but on bottom surface i don't know because i can't see under without removing the platter from the spindle.
I only can deduce that bottom surface is damaged due the behaving of the drive after head swap and due the fact that i see some debris on donor head 0 after i tried on patient drive.
Donor heads were in perfect condition before swap!

Head sliders don't seem to be damaged, neither on the patient's HSA nor on the donor's HSA.

not hopeless, but challenging... i could probably recover most of it but file integrity depends on the smaller damages

Hi pepe, thank you for the answer.
What do you think about hot swap in this scenario?
Would it help in this case?

You don't have the key modules for hot swap :-(
