Good effort. Well done, what patience!

I would worry constantly heat up the same sections again to just fit a few more balls?

You will save on the stencil, but imho it is safer and quicker to just order a stencil.

Anyway, those are my 2 cents. I hope I don't see another case like this for a while.

Phone IC reballing is very similar. If you do mobile repairs, this is pretty straight forward.

Stencil is a must....however carefully one can achieve similar results.. With my previous 5 successful attempts without rebelling(back in 2018/19), i can say these MCUs are quite nicely built and heat tolerant. The PCBs are not.

Also, one can always reball all the balls with the help of a stand that mounts the hot air gun vertically at 90degrees for uniform distribution of heat with all the balls in place..
