I have a Seagate 2.5" 320 GB model ST320LT012 (Laptop Thin HDD), which came to me with stopped heads on the plates.
After gently removing the heads, the disk started normally (full ID, correct capacity) - but no access to data.

I made a copy of the zone (generally, critical modules from both heads are OK).

Inability to perform SMART clearing and translator recalculation - in both cases it ended with LED 000000DB (smart).

I remember that a few years ago I had a similar problem after rewrite filesys and I somehow solved it, but now I don't remember...
The problem is that I don't have access to the terminal - but I have all SA copies (rom, id, ldr, filesys, mod,...)

I have replaced the heads and PCB (with ROM)
With the donor head we have similar messages with the same ending...

However, the head from the patient works without any problems in the donor.
Of course, shorting the reading channel does nothing...

Your drive seems to have faulty writing. You need to feed a diskfw loader to start with...

The problem is still in Firmware, writing sysfiles, and changing heads are wrong move this LED:000000BD FAddr:00004C51 error has a solution. This happened because lack of Firmware knowledge to us. Seagate, WD or other hard drives brand didn't create HDD's for data recovery with in the mind and HDD's structure are their top secret, that's why we invent a new solution for every data recovery case arrived.

Tips

1. Seagate writing module and sysfile from even original backup FW uncheck Plist and other defects list until it is necessary or final option remain. I have experimented on lots of seagate families the command line of seagate work differently on every family.

2. Do not think about heads change until drives are spinning down.. or as you wish.

I will soon share my detail knowledge of both tips on separates topic when got some free time.

Drive is now pretty much screwed, albeit still pretty easy with right knowledge. Feeding Discfw is 1st step.
The bad thing is that if you cannot manage with the recovery, you cannot return it to the client unmodified either :s

I have an identical donor disk - ST320LT012 - I did the same...

I recorded the full service zone.

After uploading it back to the disk (via rewrite sysfile) - I have the same effect...
