1. Every manufacturer says "our disks are the best". I had a customer disk, was 6 years off. Worked like new, was a Samsung. Could be luck, one day longer could be desaster, you'll never know. If you intend to search options for long time storage, use for example ZFS with high redundancy (4+ disks from different brands/models in mirror). It checks and fixes integrity if anything is fishy.

2. I don't care for single disks and just stack them in a dry room. If they die, they die. Always store data redundant is a top rule.

3. If the disk isn't damaged otherwise, no.

4. Avoid it. Avoid it more when it's running. Push down the risk by using disks with G-Sensors, but never count on it.
