Hi,
thanks in advance
I just found an old Seagate external USB drive. I am wondering if something went wrong with its power supply as it did not show up on either my linux box or my windows box when plugged in. The plug itself looked wonky with one of the male parts being loose. I think someone tried to cram it into an over crowded AC outlet and it shorted or something like that....
I took it apart, taking the raw drive out of the plastic and caddie. I put a aftermarket USB power supply and all of that on it and have plugged it into a linux box and a windows box. I think, but am not certain, that it had music and pictures on it.
facts:
1. Does snot show up in linux or windows file managers when installed.
2. Does show up in Disk management app of windows and linux.
3. Linux disk management shows it as being about half RAW and half unallocated. hmmm.... sounds like it might have had two partitions ? I think back in the day I did a FAT32 and an ext3 but do not recall for sure...
4. I can post screenshots of anything that might help you.
5. I ran the old seatools and it says the disk is healthy using the quick and fast tests.
So,,, really I am just wondering if it somehow got borked and there might be data on it or if it is entirely safe to format to ext4 with my Linux box and use it. I don't want to lose pics of kids or music if there were / are files before a possible short or other incident.
Thanks !
